John Curtis Shewmake II

John Curtis Shewmake II 1934 - 2017
John passed away peacefully on July 6, 2017 with his immediate family by his side.
He was born at home in Buckner, Arkansas. John attended first grade through high school in Stamps, Arkansas. His first two years of college were spent in Magnolia, Arkansas. He then decided to leave the state and move to Austin, Texas where he graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in business. In 1952 he moved to Dallas to begin his career in Human Resources. John met his future wife, Rosemary, in the personnel office of the department store Saner Harris while applying for a job. He moved up the street and went to work at Titches department store in the personnel department. He joined the Air Force National Guard while pursuing Rosemary and they were married on December 28, 1957. Both their children, Curt and Ellen were born in Dallas. The family moved to Boise in 1966 where he went to work for the Bon Marche. They transferred him to Seattle and after six months of what he described as “the most miserable cloudy and wet period in his life”, the family moved back to Boise where they still reside today. John worked at Boise Cascade for many years and ended his work career as a very successful real estate agent.
John made people laugh with his charismatic southern charm and will be missed by his life-long friends which are too many to mention. He was known to some as Mr. Dillard because he could be seen there often looking for that bargain. Later in life he always said “just give me five more minutes” and now we wish he had those extra minutes.
He joins his parents, John and Sunshine, his sister Betty, his brother Mack and most of all his daughter Ellen. He is survived by his wife Rosemary, his son Curt and his wife Tracy and his grand-children Benjamin Eugene and John Ryan Shewmake.
We will be celebrating his life and the life of his daughter, Ellen on August 25, 2017 at the Basque Center from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. The dress is summer casual. In lieu of flowers please make any donations to Treasure Valley Hospice. They are true angels and bring compassion to all they touch.
