Dorothy Louise Daly

Dorothy (Dee) Louise Daly, 86, of Boise, passed away peacefully on May 19, 2017 at 7:32 AM at Spring Creek at Eagle Island, in Eagle Idaho surrounded by her immediate family.
Dee is survived by her son, Michael Daly, her daughter, Barbara Arnoth, 4 grandchildren, and 1 great grandson.
A Memorial Service for Dee will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 24, at Cloverdale Funeral Home Chapel, 1200 N. Cloverdale Rd, Boise. Burial will follow later that afternoon in McCall.
Dorothy Tietjens was born on March 26, 1931 in Seattle, Washington to William (Bill) Tietjens and Marion Louise Warren. Bill worked for a major auto parts distributor, and was soon transferred to Yakama, WA, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Dorothy met Stan Daly in 1951, while attending Boise State Junior College and they married soon after. They were married for 21 years and had 2 children together. In their early years, they lived in San Diego, CA, and when Stan finished his military service in the Navy, they returned to Boise in 1952. Michael was born in Boise, and Barbara was born 1 1/2 years later in Portsmouth, New Hampshire where Stan was working with Morrison Knudsen at the Portsmouth Naval Base. In 1955 they moved back to Idaho, and then to Brownlee Dam in Oregon. In 1958, they moved back to Boise, and lived in the Highlands, where their children were raised. Dorothy especially loved her summers at the family cabin in McCall, and only came back to Boise when school started. During the school season, she kept busy with volunteer work and other community activities, including singing in many Music Week productions, and volunteering with many local groups, including the Junior League of Boise, YWCA, Planned Parenthood, and the Idaho Historical Society. Dorothy and Stan divorced in 1973.
In 1977, while visiting her son in Alaska, she found a job, and decided to move to Alaska. Dorothy, who was now becoming known as Dee, had many adventures in Alaska. She worked and lived at the Sourdough Lodge, Glenallen, Nome, Teller, and finally Fairbanks, Alaska. She was employed in various jobs, including: a kitchen manager at the Sourdough Lodge, and various other restaurants, being a writer for the Nome Nugget newspaper, she played a Madam in the Frivolous Front Street Follies dance and cabaret in Nome, drove the Teller school bus, and worked with Judie Gumm, a Jewelry Designer and manufacturer in Fairbanks. She also took up weaving and enjoyed making beautiful things for her family and friends. After a small stroke in 1994 Dee moved back to Boise one last time to be closer to family where she was reacquainted with old friends, and made many new friends in her time volunteering for the Morrison Center and becoming deeply involved with the Center of Peace, and later, the Center for Spiritual Living.
Dee loved to travel and made many long-distance trips to visit her daughter and her family, including 2 granddaughters in the various places they lived, including Albuquerque, Denver, Los Angeles, Marina Del Rey, and Ventura CA. She even took the opportunity to go to Italy with friends.
Dee's generous warm heart, positive attitude, and joyful smile will be missed by all who knew her.
